Jacksonville, FL (Sports Network) - Jacksonville Jaguars top pick Byron Leftwich agreed to a seven-year contract on Wednesday. The quarterback was the team's top pick in the first round of April's NFL Draft.

Leftwich has the opportunity to void the deal after the fifth year. He also received a $10.9 million signing bonus and will cost the team $1.73 million on the 2003 salary cap.

"The key we had from the beginning was we wanted to do a deal that was fair to Byron and responsible for the team," said Jaguars salary cap boss and lead negotiator Paul Vance on the team's website.

Leftwich, who was the final first-round pick to sign, started all but one game for Marshall University last season. He was the seventh overall choice in the 2003 draft and held out for 19 days.

As a senior in 2002, he complied 4,268 passing yards and led the nation in total offense. He was named the Mid-American Conference Offensive Player of the Year for the second consecutive season while also capturing the Vern Smith Leadership Award as the league's most valuable player.
